Mark & Jack: Principle #4 - Believe In Yourself

September 23, 2009 by Mark T. Rafter · Leave a Comment

This is the 4th week in my series, Mark & Jack: 52.4 Weeks of Living the Success Principles, my quest to master the Success Principles as written by Jack Canfield in his book of the same name.  Last week’s blogs were about getting what you want and my approach to helping people create a Living Wealth Plan.   If you didnt read it, check out how I applied this in my own life and some tips on how it can help you to be successful.

This week’s Principle is Believe in Yourself.  I have been listening to Wayne Dyer’s latest audio book, Excuses Be Gone (recommended).  It mentions another book called The Biology of Belief and how establishing a positive mental position for your intentions at some point goes beyond the thinking and starts to influence your actual cellular biology.

Heady stuff … I believe it.  And, as we are discussing, that is the first step.  Someone said the same thing about the Law of Attraction: you can either not believe in it and it will act on you without your participation (I prefer “full attention”) or you can believe in it and have it work for you.

At the end of the day, what is wrong with more positive thinking?  Decide what one thing you want more in life right now.  Financial stability is popular.  To be a ranked USTA tennis player.  To have self confidence to stand up to a bullying coworker.  Put it into words and stand in front of the mirror, looking yourself in the eye and repeat the affirmation over and over, until you feel energized (or someone comes in and wants to know what’s wrong).

After awhile, I find that I cannot help but feel better. “I will be a million dollar a year public speaker in 3 years.  I am knowledgeable, funny and helpful and 1000s of people will benefit from hearing what I have to say about being wealthy.”

That’s it - I am heading to the mirror right now.  What are you waiting for?

Creating Reality: Stimulus + Response = Outcome

Creating your own reality is not for sissies….

This is the last post for week 1: Mark & Jack: 52.4 Weeks of Living the Success Priniciples.  As such, it’s my final comments on Taking 100% Responsibility for Your Life (Success Principle #1).  In his book, The Success Principles, Jack Canfield notes a “formula” for success that he attributes to Dr. Robert Resnick, a psychotherapist in Los Angeles: Event + Response = Outcome.

If you look at my previous posts on this Success Principle, you’ll note that I have been talking about this to some degree: the only thing you truly control is your response to the world around you.  No one else will make you mad, happy, jealous, deranged, blissful or any of a number of others states of emotion and consciousness.  You do all of that.

What I think is even more powerful about this formula has to do with the realization I came to when I Read more

Part of the Solution

November 12, 2008 by Mark T. Rafter · Leave a Comment

I have a local meetup that I host called Manifesting Wealth: Implementing the Law of Attraction.  Tonight’s topic is “How to Stay Positive in Challenging Times.”

So, since I have to run the meeting and in theory contribute something to the discussion, I have been thinking about this a bit.  It’s a timely topic - the economy is certainly not thriving: jobs being lost, real estate and stock prices are getting hammered, the overall mood of our country is somber.

I think the latter is an improvement from ‘fearful’ which is where we were about 2-3 weeks ago.  Obama’s decisive victory was one of the first positive feelings I got from watching the news in months.

I think everyone could improve their own perspective AND the reality that comes with it If we focus our intention on being a part of the solution, in whatever form that takes, and not promoting the fear and uncertainty that comes with the kind of dynamic we are going through right now.  When you are looking for a solution, you are feeling positive emotion— but when you are looking at a problem, you are feeling negative emotion.

No matter how you “implement” this perspective, whether it is a cheerful attitude of gratitude for the health and well being you have, being helpful and generous with your time in assisting others or any other kind of ‘part of the solution’ behavior, your quality of life cannot help but improve.

Keep your consciousness in a higher vibrational state - be a part of the solution.

Resistance is Futile

April 24, 2008 by Mark T. Rafter · 1 Comment

You many know this line from Star Trek The Next Generation, uttered by The Borg to inform some soon to be conquered individual that they might as well give up because ‘resistance is futile.’

I agree, in principle but for a far different reason. I dont believe in giving in to a hostile force trying to bend my will to their way of thinking (Microsoft has been referred to as a corporate version of the Borg … sort of fits if you think about it in a monopolistic sort of way). I have a quote in my book that explains my perspective a little bit better:

“The root cause of anything that diminishes our wellbeing can be found in resistance.”
-Abraham-Hicks

This is from the teachings of Abraham, provided to us by Jerry and Esther Hicks, a couple of very leading edge thinkers and teachers in the area of the Law of Attraction and other metaphysics. The point is that when you are resisting, the universe is trying to tell you something: you should not be doing this, it is not the right time to be doing this, you are doing this for the wrong reasons, etc.

You emotions are how your subconscious communicates with the real world and your conscious mind. If you are pissed off about something, angry, sad … whatever … resistance is rearing it’s head. Listen to your feelings, explore all the possible sources of why you may be resisting the situation, activity, or person that is causing you to not go with the flow.

An example: I am in the process of writing news releases for my book coming out on May 9th (The Wealth Manifesto). I have been struggling with getting this done for the better part of a day and a half. I MUST send these out to all the major reviewers (everything from the New York Times to any magazine that has anything to do with my subject material) as this is free publicity and an essential part of my marketing campaign. I wont get into the reasons I uncovered for WHY I was resisting this (unless someone asks me to) but I finally figured out that it was not the right time to be writing these news releases, the flow was not there.

It’s not like I dont have plenty of other things to do in getting the promotion together for my book (dozens of things, many of which I really enjoy) - I was essentially wasting my time beating my head against the monitor trying to crank these out.

If you are having a hard time with something and it is causing you grief (”diminishing your wellbeing”), leave it and move on to something else that feels better for the time being. Your mood and your productivity will increase dramatically if you dont resist the subliminal messages you are getting from the superconscious mind. There is great power there … we must learn to listen to it.

Cheers.

Divine Grace - The Consecration of Your Soul

March 14, 2008 by Mark T. Rafter · Leave a Comment

This title sort of came from, well, divine grace? Out of the blue? My subconscious? Today’s writing goes deep…

One of things about writing a book is that you and your ideas at the time of printing are frozen forevermore. One of the nice things about something like a blog or a newsletter is that you can keep your readers up to date on what you thinking about, how your thinking is evolving, what new revelations have come your way. The idea - I have been told this is the idea anyway - is that you build a relationship with those readers, they get to know you, and if they appreciate what you have to say, they hang around to see what you are going to say next.

In the course of writing The Wealth Manifesto, a number of profound changes have come over me. I have told a few close friends that the book is the way I plan to live my life. In it are many things that I have learned and experienced and do in fact live everyday. Others are things I know to be true by observing others or through research. Still others are the way I would like to be but just don’t have my act together to quite be there yet. One of these is my own spirituality. I’m on a journey - just as every other conscious being - to discover more about my own spiritual wellbeing.

One of the ways that I suggest as an avenue to discover that about yourself is through your Wealth Potential. In my book, I proposed the idea that this is one of the most tangible methods to uncover purpose and create meaning in your life. When you are using your capacities, your passions, working in alignment with your values and what feels good, you are fulfilling your part. You are doing what you were meant to be doing. This does not mean you have to believe in anything - God, Higher Power, etc. - other than yourself. You and you alone are able to create meaning in your life. I can figure out what my gifts are, what I am passionate about, what interests and fulfills me. Attaching significance does not need to go beyond ‘I am enjoying life. I am content. Doing (this) makes my happy.’ If your beliefs are religious and you are fulfilling God’s will, God’s plan for you, deploying and putting your Wealth Potential into use works seamlessly with any religious preference. God is the Creator of all things, including you. If you are using your God-given talents and everything else that you are, it is impossible for you to be doing anything but operating according to God’s plan.

I do believe of course, that there is a connection between us and the Infinite. That our Wealth Potential - our ability to create value and enhance our own wellbeing and that of others - is a form of personal sacrament. It is our connection to the superconscious mind that is the Source of all intuition, the Source of unlimited abundance and how we do indeed play our part in this synergy of life. Our Wealth Potential is the real world manifestation of our sacred purpose, the consecration of our heart and soul to creating wealth. For ourselves and the world.

That is big ….

Article 2: Wealth is created by the transformation of energy

February 19, 2008 by Mark T. Rafter · Leave a Comment

There sure is lots of talk these days about energy: the cost of energy, the need for renewable energy, saving and conserving energy, investing in energy - not exactly new subjects but they sure are getting a lot of attention. What’s the big deal anyway, why is energy so important?

Well, for starters, all living organisms rely on energy to grow and reproduce. Whether it’s radiation from the Sun causing photosynthesis in green plants or chemical energy from food firing the metabolism of animals, we all depend on energy to survive. From the astronomically huge world of galaxies to the infinitesimally tiny world of subatomic quanta, energy relationships are perfectly balanced to provide us with the world we live in. Everything is energy. Energy is everything. Energy is the currency of wealth, literally and figuratively a factor in all aspects of our lives. Read more
